Rough Day at Chahue May 2015

Yesterday was one of those occasional days where it's as hazardous to step on the sand as to go in the water.   The waves swept over the entire beach and rushed back with an undertow that could pull away anything not anchored down.

A disappointed skim boarder watches waves crashing over the pier.

The wheelchair access ramp lying in a pool of flood waters.

The first time I've seen police emergency tape at the beach.

Probably a wise precaution as there were lulls that could have lured an unwary vacationer on to the sand.

Here it looks like the water may have reached all the way to the road.

That red flag has to be cemented to the rock.  I watched it take pounding after pounding.

The entire stairwell buried under sand.

I just checked the news and learned it has been a scary business all the way up the coast from Chiapas to Guerrero.  In this disturbing time lapse webcam video, you can see little objects being swept out to sea.  Let's hope those are just lawn chairs and umbrellas.

Reports are all over the news about a young man who disappeared from Playa Violin here in Huatulco.

I got out this morning for a splash in Santa Cruz.  The wave action is not completely over yet but SC is our calmest beach  and it was low tide but I suspect the restaurants are going to have to move their beach front tables in out of harm's way before the day is through.

Christmas Eve Morning Huatulco 2014

Found myself out the door before the sun came up this morning.
Here it comes.  Time to go.

There aren't too many people out and about this time of day.

I was looking for some Christmas decorations.  They're a bit sparse but they're out there.  Mostly I used the Sony Action Cam because it does alright in low light.

I've ridden by this sculpture for over a month and finally noticed it was a car this morning.  Sitting there on a driving lane, it's a tad inexplicable.

Come to think of it, it would make an extremely cool bicycle rack.  You could chain 10 bikes on there no problem.

I caught these lights just before the attendant turned them off for the day.

Chahue.  Here comes the sun.

Another beautiful day begins.

After the rain

It rained long and hard on our first day of vacation. A friend had to postpone a trip to Merida because bridges and roads had been washed out. The next day started out cloudy but I was determined to get outdoors even if just to walk around town with an umbrella. By the time I was ready, an umbrella wasn't necessary.

Blue sky returns to Chahue.

Several of these rockslides about. I've been told a huge tree fell across the trail to Playa Organo and there's no way to crawl around, under or over it.

Gushing canals.

Motofest 2010

Some fun things were happening in our town last weekend but some bad directions steered me the wrong way. Worse, I passed on those same directions on to other people. I missed the Motofest rock concert on Friday evening and almost the helmet awareness ride.

It seems to have been a wild Saturday night. One friend had lost the battery to his scooter earlier in the week. Another had the lock stolen to his. When I got ready for the ride early Sunday morning, my speedometer and license plates were missing. They were there. I just couldn´t see them. Somebody had sprayed them with black paint. Worse, the freaks sprayed a neighbor´s shiny truck.

There were no bikes gathered in the square when I arrived. Oh well. I was awake. It was a beautiful fresh morning. I gassed up for a nice ride on my own and that´s how I came across the Helmet Awareness Ride, more or less by accident. Somebody gave me a fresh T-shirt and we were on our way. It was a longer ride than last year. We circled through town twice, making a lot of noise. That´s how my friend found us. Luckily his girlfriend brought her camera along. Mine was broken.

I bought a new one right after the ride. Within minutes I ran into a pack of UMAR students down at Chahue. My first picture with the new Samsung. May it have better luck than all the cameras before it.
